Congratulations to Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School in Temecula who this morning were presented with the Mayor's Trophy by Councilman Chuck Washington for having 3rd and 4th graders submit the most essays on Individual Initiative, sponsored by the Can Do Club of Temecula. The school are 2nd Time winners of the trophy.. Can Do President, Perry Peters, was on hand to help make the presentation to school Principal Kristen Mora.
The inspiration for the Award came from a President Reagan speech before the United States Olympic Committee, when he paid tribute to the nation's can-do spirit, specifically citing the volunteers and donors of Temecula, among others. He said:
"The folks in a rather small town, Temecula...got together and built themselves a sports park, held fund-raising barbecues and dinners. And those that didn't have money, volunteered the time and energy. And now the young people of that community have baseball diamonds for Little League and other sports events, just due to what's traditional Americanism."
